In the early morning hours of December 28, 2019, the life of 19-year-old TeMarcus Ormarn McMullen, a Black male from Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Officers from the West Precinct were dispatched to 2626 Court R Ensley around 4 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered McMullen unresponsive, having sustained a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to UAB Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The chaotic scene left two other individuals with injuries. One person suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital in a private vehicle. A third individual was grazed by a bullet and received treatment for minor injuries at the scene. The circumstances that led to the shooting were not immediately clear to investigators.
Born on October 23, 2000, TeMarcus, known to some as Marco, was educated in the Birmingham City School System and had a passion for basketball. He was remembered for his warm, caring, and competitive spirit, as well as his sense of humor and loyalty. His death was one of several homicides that occurred in Birmingham during the final weekend of 2019, prompting concern from community leaders and law enforcement about the ongoing violence in the city.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Birmingham Police Department's Homicide Unit urged anyone with information to come forward. However, no arrests were made at the time, and the investigation into the death of TeMarcus Ormarn McMullen remains ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the fatal shooting.
