On May 31, 2019, 28-year-old Justin Clyde Kemp of Fairfield, Alabama, was fatally shot at the Uptown Apartments in Birmingham's Fountain Heights neighborhood. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on the 1500 block of 19th Street North. Kemp was found on a second-floor balcony with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:12 a.m.
