On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, Stephen Kemp, a 42-year-old white male from Irondale, Alabama, was discovered by West Precinct officers inside a vehicle in the 1100 Block of Avenue F suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers had responded to a "Person Shot" call. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported Kemp to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his wounds. This incident marked Birmingham's 20th murder investigation of 2025.
