On October 5, 2019, 47-year-old Miko Steadman Marks was fatally shot in a drive-by incident in Bessemer, Alabama. The shooting occurred just before 5 p.m. as Marks was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her son on the 2000 block of Ninth Avenue North, over the Mary Susan Bryant Bridge. Another vehicle approached and opened fire, striking Marks. Her son, uninjured, attempted to rush her to the hospital but crashed at Ninth Avenue North and 19th Street North.
