In the early evening of Saturday, December 8, 2007, a discovery was made on Mt. View Road near Mt. View Circle in Nashville, TN, that would begin a years-long mystery. Lewis DeOnsiMo Fenney, a 21-year-old male, was found wounded and lying on the road. Initially, it was believed that he had been the victim of a traffic accident, and compassionate citizens stopped to provide aid until paramedics arrived. It was only later, at the hospital, that the grim truth was revealed: Fenney had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into his death uncovered a sequence of events leading up to the fatal encounter. Just before he was shot, Fenney had taken a ride to the Dailey's Shell gas station located at Old Hickory Boulevard and I-24. His purpose for being there was to meet a man known only by the name 'Reggie.' Fenney was seen getting into a maroon four-door vehicle that was already occupied by three Black males. This was the last time he was seen alive. The car, with Fenney inside, drove away from the gas station, and what transpired in the moments that followed remains unclear.
To this day, the case of Lewis DeOnsiMo Fenney's death is considered a cold case by the Nashville Police Department. No arrests have ever been made in connection with his murder, and no suspects have been formally charged. The descriptions of the men in the car with Fenney are all that investigators have to go on. The two passengers were described as possibly being brothers in their 20s, with dark complexions, heavyset builds, and short hair. The driver was described as a Black male in his 30s with light facial hair. The identity of the man called 'Reggie' and his connection to Fenney remain central to the unsolved homicide. The maroon four-door vehicle has never been located, and the motive for the shooting remains unknown. The Nashville Police Department continues to ask for the public's help with any information that might lead to a breakthrough in this long-unsolved case.
