In the late hours of a Friday night in Philadelphia, a 28-year-old man named John McCorkle was found lying in the street on the 4500 block of North 8th Street. It was March 30, 2012, at 10:54 p.m. when Philadelphia Police officers responded to a call and discovered him suffering from a gunshot wound.
McCorkle, a devoted father of two sons who was loved by everyone who knew him, was rushed to Temple University Hospital.
Despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and died later that night. He had been shot in the chest. At the time of his death, he resided on the 4800 block of North Lawrence Street.
In the wake of the shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department launched an investigation into the killing.
