On March 8, 2016, Demetrius Pinckney, the 21-year-old younger brother of NBA player Dion Waiters, was shot and killed in South Philadelphia during a violent incident involving several dirt bikes and ATVs. The shooting occurred around 7:52 p.m. on the 2300 block of Morris Street, where police found Pinckney suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
