In the early morning hours of November 17, 2024, the life of 35-year-old James Anthony Grays was tragically cut short in Huntsville, Alabama. Grays, a male resident of Huntsville, was attending a party at an unregistered club known as the 'Boom Boom Room' in the 3000 block of Lakeview Drive. According to investigators, Grays was asked to leave the gathering for being too loud.
What began as a request to quiet down escalated into a fatal encounter.
As James Grays was leaving the party, he was shot in the back. The entire incident was reportedly captured on surveillance video. First responders found Grays with a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Huntsville Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation, focusing on identifying those responsible for the senseless act of violence that shattered the early morning calm.
Within days, the investigation led authorities to two suspects: 34-year-old Kiarah Donque Jones and 31-year-old Erica Lashawn Baker, both from Huntsville. Warrants were issued for their arrests on murder charges. A manhunt ensued, and on November 22, 2024, both Jones and Baker were located and apprehended by U.S. Marshals at a hotel in Lexington, Kentucky. Following their arrests, they were extradited back to Alabama to face the charges against them.
By September 2025, both Kiarah Donque Jones and Erica Baker had been indicted by a grand jury for the murder of James Grays. Jones, identified as the gunman, was held without bond. Baker, considered an accomplice in the crime, was eventually released on bond. The case then began moving through the legal system, with the prosecution and defense preparing for trial.
