An argument that began between a man and his girlfriend in the parking lot of a Tulsa convenience store escalated into a fatal shooting, leaving one man dead and two other people wounded. The deceased, a 33-year-old man named Ryan Mitchell, had arrived at a QuikTrip located at 15th Street and Denver Avenue with his girlfriend in a red Mercedes. The couple was reportedly arguing before they even reached the store, and their dispute continued in the parking lot.
The situation drew the
attention of others in the vicinity, and what started as a domestic argument soon intensified as another group of individuals became involved. A witness, alarmed by the escalating conflict, flagged down a security officer who was on duty at the convenience store. The security officer approached Mitchell and attempted to de-escalate the volatile situation. However, during their interaction, Mitchell produced a handgun.
The scene took a dramatic turn when an off-duty security officer, who happened to be inside the store making a purchase, witnessed Mitchell draw his weapon. The off-duty officer intervened, leading to a physical altercation with Mitchell in the parking lot. During the struggle, Mitchell fired his weapon several times, striking the off-duty security officer. Both the off-duty officer and the on-duty security officer returned fire, and Mitchell was hit by the gunfire.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Mitchell was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The off-duty security officer who had been shot was also taken to the hospital and was last reported to be in stable condition. In the exchange of gunfire, a woman who was across the street was struck by a stray bullet. She was also transported to the hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition. The Tulsa Police Department is investigating the incident.
