Alaton Taylor, a 62-year-old Black man, was fatally shot inside a residence at 5511 Holly Springs Boulevard in Little Rock, Arkansas, on September 16, 2026. The Little Rock Police Department incident report records the shooting call at approximately 11:28 p.m., although a later police news release listed the time as 11:28 a.m. Officers responding to the home found Taylor suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and immediately began life-saving efforts. Despite those efforts, he died at the scene.

Police quickly secured the residence as a homicide scene and took 25-year-old Yolanda Taylor into custody. The police incident report identified her as a suspect and indicated that she and Alaton lived at the same address. It also recorded their relationship as child and parent; obituary information for Alaton Taylor identifies Yolanda as one of his daughters. The incident report categorized the circumstances surrounding the homicide as an argument, although authorities have not publicly described what the disagreement involved or what specifically led to the shooting.

Homicide detectives and members of the Little Rock Police Department's Crime Scene Search Unit responded to process the home and continue the investigation. Investigators secured the residence while awaiting a search warrant and began gathering evidence connected to the shooting. Taylor's body was later transported by the Pulaski County Coroner to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.

Although Yolanda Taylor was initially taken to the Major Crimes Division and identified as a suspect in the incident report, police did not immediately arrest or charge her with Taylor's death. Detectives reviewed surveillance video and interviewed her as part of the investigation. After those steps, authorities decided to release her without charges while the case awaited completion of a file review. Police have not publicly disclosed what the surveillance footage showed or what information emerged during the interview that led to that decision.

As of September 24, 2026, Little Rock police continued to describe Taylor's death as an ongoing homicide investigation. No criminal charges, prosecution, trial, or conviction had been publicly announced in connection with the shooting, and Yolanda Taylor remained released without charges pending further review of the investigative file.
