Davin Chance Bizzell-Holmes was a 15-year-old Black male from Little Rock, Arkansas. His mother, LaTracy Bizzell, remembers their close bond, from talking and spending time together to him asking to help in the kitchen on Thanksgiving. "I miss us talking, I miss us being together, I miss seeing him, I miss his voice, I miss everything about my son," she said.
On October 14, 2023, Davin was shot and killed outside the Little Rock Police Department’s 12th Street Substation.
Another 15-year-old boy was also shot but survived his injuries. In a moment of unimaginable horror, Davin's mother and aunt, who were only a few blocks away, arrived at the active crime scene where Ms. Bizzell saw her son slumped over inside a vehicle. "October brings a lot of challenges and heartache as it's the month that I got the call that I lost my son, the month that I had to see my son at that crime scene slumped over, and the month that I had to bury my son," she later recalled.
The loss has left LaTracy Bizzell with a profound and lasting grief. She visits her son’s grave almost daily to feel close to him and finds holidays especially painful. Her first Mother's Day without him was heartbreaking, and she has said that the silence in her home during Thanksgiving feels just as heavy as it did in the first year after his death. "We aren’t supposed to bury our kids, it's a struggle to survive day by day, it's painful to know how my son's life was taken," she shared.
The investigation into Davin's murder led to charges against seven individuals. In August 2025, one of the accused, 18-year-old Charles Gantt III, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and a terroristic act for his role in the shooting. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. For Davin's mother, the plea deal did not bring a sense of closure. She believes the sentence should have been longer, expressing that justice had not been fully served for the pain her family has endured. "No, justice has not been served," she said. "You know, I have a life sentence. Davin's life was beautiful, but it was cut short." As of August 2025, one person had been sentenced in connection with Davin's death.
