A birthday celebration for Anthony Anderson, age 37, took a tragic turn in the early morning hours of June 1, 2026, ending in his death in a Las Vegas parking lot. What began as a night of camaraderie between Anderson and his roommate, 26-year-old Jordan Garcia, at the Dive Bar spiraled into a fatal confrontation. Anderson's girlfriend, who was with the two men, told police that earlier in the evening they had been affectionate, calling each other "brothers."
She had agreed to be the designated driver as Anderson had been drinking heavily.
The dispute began around 4 a.m. in a shopping complex parking lot on South Maryland Parkway near Flamingo Road when Anderson insisted on driving home. Garcia reportedly tried to convince his friend to let his girlfriend drive, leading to a verbal argument that quickly escalated into a physical fight. Anderson's girlfriend witnessed the two men "tussling on the ground" and attempted to intervene. After separating them, she returned to the car and then saw flashes in her mirror that she believed were from a gun. Seven rounds were determined to have been fired. Anderson was shot and rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. The coroner later ruled his death a homicide.
Following the shooting, Jordan Garcia was arrested and charged with open murder. According to a bar employee who came to Anderson's aid, Garcia admitted to the shooting, stating something to the effect of, "I shot him and he tried to fight me." The handgun found at the scene belonged to Anderson, but was reportedly shared between the two roommates. Garcia was taken into custody at the Clark County Detention Center without bail. When questioned by police, he invoked his right to an attorney and did not provide a statement. His next court appearance was scheduled for June 9.
