In the late evening hours of October 30, 2021, the life of 26-year-old Deldridge Earl Jones Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short in Las Vegas, Nevada. Police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 5100 block of East Twain Avenue, near Nellis Boulevard, at approximately 10:40 p.m. Arriving officers discovered Jones suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Despite the efforts of medical responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting continued for several months until a suspect was identified and apprehended. In February 2022, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested 36-year-old Daniel Gordon in connection with the fatal shooting. Gordon was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center on multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting into an occupied structure.
According to the arrest report, the motive for the deadly confrontation stemmed from an accusation of theft. Gordon alleged that Jones had stolen his truck. He admitted to police that he had borrowed a gun from his sister-in-law and confronted Jones in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Gordon claimed that he fired an initial shot "into the ground" before another individual began shooting at him, causing him to flee the area.
