In the autumn of 1999, the life of 36-year-old African-American Ulysses Shiyreco Thomas was tragically cut short in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the evening of Tuesday, October 26, Thomas was engaged in a phone conversation in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven located at 903 North Pecos Road. It was in this seemingly ordinary moment that he was ambushed and shot in the back. After being struck by the bullet, Thomas managed to stumble into the convenience store, where he informed those present that he had been shot.
Emergency services were called, and Thomas was rushed to the University Medical Center's Trauma Center. He underwent surgery for his injuries and was subsequently moved to the Intensive Care Unit. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Ulysses Shiyreco Thomas succumbed to his wounds and passed away.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing two individuals fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. The suspects were described as either white or light-skinned Hispanic males, estimated to be in their late teens to early twenties. One of the suspects was described as being between 5'8" and 5'10" with a medium build, short dark hair, a goatee, and a large tattoo on his upper left arm. The second suspect was also described as being between 5'8" and 5'10" with a slender build of 145 to 160 pounds and short dark hair. The suspects were last seen running west from the 7-Eleven and into the nearby Palm Village Apartment Complex.
Despite the eyewitness descriptions and an ongoing investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Section, the case remains unsolved. No arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Ulysses Shiyreco Thomas, and the motive for the shooting has never been publicly determined. His death is one of the lingering cold cases in Las Vegas, with law enforcement continuing to seek information that could lead to the apprehension of his killers.
