William Winfield "Bill" Wolfe Jr., a 42-year-old Caucasian male, was celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary with his wife, Robyn, at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the night of October 1, 2017. The couple had traveled from their home in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, for the event, and were enjoying the concert when the festivities turned to terror.
From a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, a gunman opened fire on the crowd below, unleashing a hail of bullets on the unsuspecting concertgoers.
In the ensuing chaos, Bill and Robyn were separated. While Robyn survived the attack physically unharmed, Bill was among the dozens of people who were fatally wounded in the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. He was a devoted father to two sons and a beloved figure in his community, known for his dedication as a youth wrestling and Little League coach. Friends and family remembered him as a man who lived for his community, always willing to help and encourage young athletes to do their best.
The perpetrator of the massacre was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock. The investigation that followed the shooting determined that Paddock acted alone. He had meticulously planned the attack, stockpiling a large arsenal of firearms in his hotel suite. After firing upon the crowd for approximately ten minutes, Paddock took his own life before law enforcement could apprehend him.
No arrests were made in connection with the shooting as investigators concluded that Paddock was the sole individual responsible for the attack. Despite extensive investigations by local and federal law enforcement, a clear motive for Paddock's horrific actions was never determined. He left no note or manifesto to explain his reasons, leaving the families of his victims, including the family of Bill Wolfe, with unanswered questions in the wake of their devastating loss.
