In the late hours of a Saturday night in Las Vegas, on May 8, 2021, the life of 29-year-old Alfonso Turner, a Black / African American man, was tragically cut short. Just before 11 p.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night near Amberleigh Lane and South Mountain Vista Street, prompting a notification from the city's ShotSpotter system. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Turner inside a car, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County coroner's office would later confirm that Turner died from a gunshot wound to the head, and his death was officially ruled a homicide.
Homicide investigators believe that Turner was sitting in his car when two men approached and opened fire before quickly fleeing the scene. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement had little information to go on, and the suspects vanished into the night.
