In the late hours of a Thursday in Las Vegas, a young man's life was tragically cut short. Christian Jesus Gutierrez, a 24-year-old Hispanic male from Oxnard, California, was walking in the northeast valley on May 14, 2015, when he became the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. in the 4100 block of East Cheyenne Avenue, near Las Vegas Boulevard North.
Responding to a call, police discovered Gutierrez lying near the sidewalk, suffering from multiple
gunshot wounds to his torso. He was rushed to University Medical Center, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner's office later formally identified him.
Investigators believe Gutierrez may have been involved in a confrontation that escalated into deadly violence. Despite their efforts to piece together the events of that night, crucial details remained elusive. No description of a shooter was ever released to the public, and the motive for the killing remained unknown. The case was Metro's 44th homicide of 2015.
In the years following the shooting, the investigation has remained open, but no arrests have been made. The case grew cold, leaving a void for the family and friends of Christian Gutierrez, who were left devastated by the sudden and violent loss. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough and bring a measure of justice for Gutierrez.
