In the early morning hours of December 19, 2015, the life of 38-year-old Jesse Galvez-Valle, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence in downtown Las Vegas. At approximately 6:50 a.m., as he was walking to an apartment in the 700 block of North 10th Street, near Maryland Parkway and Bonanza Road, a single, loud gunshot echoed through the neighborhood.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Galvez-Valle unresponsive.
Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene from what the coroner would later confirm was a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators believed a high-caliber weapon was used due to the volume of the gunshot. Witnesses reported seeing a gray Toyota or Nissan pickup truck speeding away from the area shortly after the shot was fired, adding a crucial piece of information to the initial investigation. The sudden and violent nature of his death left his family and friends in shock and mourning, grappling with the unexpected loss of a loved one just before the holidays.
For months, the case remained under investigation as detectives worked to piece together the events of that fatal morning. Then, in April 2016, a significant breakthrough occurred. Metro Police arrested two men in connection with the shooting. The suspects were identified as 28-year-old Alfredo Guerrero and 31-year-old Victor Montero. Both men were taken into custody and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on serious charges: one count of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder, bringing a measure of hope for justice to Galvez-Valle's grieving family.
