In Las Vegas, a dispute born from the frustrations of traffic escalated into a fatal encounter on the afternoon of November 25, 2024, leaving 50-year-old Caucasian male Michael Wilmot dead. An Uber driver, Wilmot was navigating the congested streets of the Las Vegas Strip when he became engaged in a road rage incident with the driver of a silver Subaru WRX.
The conflict simmered for approximately a quarter of a mile before culminating in a tragic confrontation in front of the Palazzo resort.
Witnesses reported that at around 4:00 p.m., Wilmot stopped his gray Jeep Cherokee, leaving his two passengers inside, and approached the Subaru. He then began to bang on the driver's side window of the other vehicle. In response to this, the driver of the Subaru, a 24-year-old woman, discharged a firearm. Wilmot was struck in the neck and, although he was reportedly armed and attempted to draw his own weapon, he collapsed before he was able to. He died at the scene.
Shortly before the shooting, at about 3:40 p.m., a taxi driver had alerted authorities to a reckless driver in a vehicle matching the description of the Subaru near the Bellagio Hotel. After the incident, the female driver of the Subaru fled the area. Security personnel at the Venetian-Palazzo were able to assist law enforcement by providing the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle. This information led police to a residence near Washington Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive, where the suspect was located and taken into custody.
Following her arrest, the 24-year-old woman was later released from custody as the Clark County District Attorney's Office began a review of the case to determine if her actions constituted self-defense. The investigation is ongoing, and prosecutors will ultimately decide whether to file charges against her in connection with the death of Michael Wilmot.
