In the early morning hours of September 21, 2014, the life of 25-year-old Launde White, an African-American male, was cut short in a backyard in northeast Las Vegas. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of Kolanut Lane, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered White deceased from gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
Investigations revealed that the events leading to the tragedy began when an
unidentified man entered the backyard where White was present. The man reportedly attempted to purchase drugs but was turned away. A short time later, he returned, and what began as a conversation with White escalated into a heated argument. The altercation turned fatal when the unidentified man shot White before fleeing the scene on foot.
Nearly a year later, in August 2015, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department sought the public's assistance in identifying the suspect. He was described as a Black man in his late 20s or early 30s with a "large muscular build." The suspect was said to be approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall with a shaved head. Despite the release of this description, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the murder of Launde White. The case, it appears, remains unresolved.
