In a quiet home in southwest Las Vegas, the life of 18-year-old Clayton Wesley Bronson, a White male, was tragically cut short on the evening of May 22, 2014. The promising young man, who was on the cusp of graduating from Sierra Vista High School with plans to study computer science and robotics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The events of that night unfolded from what police described as a domestic disturbance between siblings that had been simmering for months.
The person responsible for Clayton's death was his own 15-year-old brother, Turner Craig Bronson. According to their mother, Wendy Bronson, the brothers had been arguing frequently. Clayton, an accomplished and driven individual involved in his church, school, and community, had been encouraging his younger brother to "get his life together." The tension escalated when their mother informed Turner that he would be sent to a wilderness camp in Texas the following day due to behavioral issues. Turner expressed his unwillingness to go.
Later that day, another argument erupted when Clayton prevented Turner from going to his girlfriend's house. The fight escalated, and their mother intervened before retreating to her room. Shortly after, she heard a gunshot and found Clayton in an upstairs hallway, wounded in the stomach. As she was on the phone with 911, Turner approached his older brother and fired a fatal shot to his head. Turner then placed the revolver he used behind some couch pillows and waited for the police to arrive.
Turner Bronson was arrested and, due to the nature of the crime, was charged as an adult with first-degree murder. During police interviews, it was noted that he displayed unusual behavior, including smiling and chuckling at inappropriate times. He was initially held without bail. In a later court proceeding, however, Turner Craig Bronson was found incompetent to stand trial and was ordered to be sent to a mental health facility.
