In a tragic turn of events stemming from a troubled romance, Adriana Herrera, a 40-year-old Hispanic female, was killed on January 3, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident, which unfolded near the intersection of east Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, was the culmination of a tense and emotional love triangle. Herrera was fatally shot while in a vehicle with her romantic partner, the ex-wife of the alleged assailant.
The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that Herrera died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling her death a homicide.
The man accused of the violent act is 41-year-old Adrian Rodriguez-Guillen, the ex-husband of the woman Herrera was dating. According to police reports, the relationship between Rodriguez-Guillen and his ex-wife had been complex. Though divorced for over a decade after a 12-year marriage that produced seven children, they had continued a romantic relationship. This dynamic shifted about a year and a half prior to the shooting when the ex-wife began an on-and-off relationship with Herrera, a coworker at Harry Reid International Airport. Two months before the fatal encounter, the ex-wife permanently ended her relationship with Rodriguez-Guillen, a decision he reportedly did not take well.
On the day of the shooting, Rodriguez-Guillen allegedly followed Herrera and his ex-wife as they drove through the city. The situation escalated when he used his vehicle to block theirs. Armed with a rifle, he is said to have approached their car and opened fire. When Herrera attempted to confront him, she was shot. During the chaos, Rodriguez-Guillen's ex-wife was also struck by a bullet, sustaining a non-life-threatening wound to her hip.
Following the shooting, Rodriguez-Guillen's demeanor reportedly changed upon realizing his ex-wife was injured. He apologized and then called 911 himself, remaining at the scene until law enforcement arrived. He was subsequently arrested and has since been charged with open murder with the use of a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and kidnapping, among other felonies. He is being held without bail. The investigation revealed that in the two months leading up to the incident, Rodriguez-Guillen had allegedly made threats to kill both women.
