Do you know who murdered Gemar Robertino Samuel? In the late afternoon of Sunday, May 28, 2006, a festive atmosphere filled the 500 block of Frederick Avenue in Las Vegas. A block party and car show was in full swing, with hundreds of people gathered to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend. Among them was Gemar Robertino Samuel, a 24-year-old African-American man. The joyful gathering turned into a scene of mass hysteria when, at approximately 5:43 p.m., gunfire erupted.
Multiple 911 calls flooded the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
dispatch, with callers reporting that several people were shooting into the large crowd. When patrol units arrived, they were met with chaos as hundreds of attendees fled in terror. In the aftermath of the shooting, eight people were found to have been struck by bullets. One victim, Steven Beck, lay dead on the sidewalk.
Gemar Samuel was gravely wounded and, along with other victims, was rushed to the University Medical Center's Trauma Unit. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and died later that evening. Another victim, Tina Robles, also passed away at the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to three.
Homicide detectives and crime scene analysts descended upon the 500 block of Frederick Avenue, which was cordoned off as they began their investigation. Dozens of individuals were interviewed in an attempt to piece together the events that led to the tragic loss of life and to identify those responsible. However, despite the numerous witnesses present at the crowded event, no suspects have ever been identified in the mass shooting. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the case has since gone cold, leaving the families of Gemar Samuel, Steven Beck, and Tina Robles without answers or justice.
