In the late afternoon of Sunday, May 28, 2006, a festive atmosphere filled the 500 block of Frederick Avenue in Las Vegas. A block party and car show was in full swing, with hundreds of people gathered to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend. Among them was Gemar Robertino Samuel, a 24-year-old African-American man. The joyful gathering turned into a scene of mass hysteria when, at approximately 5:43 p.m., gunfire erupted.
