Calvin Lawshawn Clark, 20, an African American male, spent a warm Sunday evening at a small townhome on the 4400 block of Wendy Lane in northeast Las Vegas, trading jokes and slapping down tiles in a friendly game of dominoes. Laughter turned to sharp words when an argument flared at the table. One of the men playing stormed out, then returned with a handgun and opened fire inside the home.
Clark was struck and died at the scene, as did 37-year-old Demond Billingsley; a third man was hit multiple times but survived, and a fourth escaped only because the shooter's weapon clicked empty. Responding officers arrived around 7:20 p.m. and found one victim in the garage and another inside, the tiles and table left scattered amid the chaos.
Detectives quickly focused on a suspect: 57-year-old Frederick Douglas Martin Jr. Two days later, authorities located and arrested him near Victorville, California. He was booked on two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and battery with a deadly weapon, and later extradited to Nevada. Court records show Martin ultimately pleaded guilty in January 2023; in March 2023 a judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the killings and related charges, closing a case that began with a neighborhood game that turned deadly.
