In the spring of 2026, the life of 25-year-old Jerquavious Johnson Jr. was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. On the evening of Easter Sunday, April 5th, Johnson was attending an event billed as the "One Ratchet Easter Sunday Funday" held in a shopping center parking lot near Mansfield Road and West 70th Street. The gathering, however, took a violent turn.
Amid the festivities, multiple gunshots rang out, creating chaos in the crowded parking area.
When the noise subsided, Jerquavious Johnson Jr. was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The incident, which also left two other individuals injured, cast a dark shadow over the holiday celebration and left the community in shock.
In the days following the shooting, the Shreveport Police Department launched an intensive investigation. They appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for Johnson's death. Their efforts and outreach to the community, which included a $5,000 reward from CrimeStoppers, proved fruitful.
Just under a week after the fatal shooting, authorities announced a significant development in the case. On April 11, 2026, the Shreveport Police Department arrested Valentino Carter Jr. in connection with the homicide. Carter has since been charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of Jerquavious Johnson Jr. and was taken into custody at the Shreveport City Jail. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.
