On the evening of August 26, 2020, Minnion Jackson, a 17-year-old Black male, was driving on Interstate 220 in Shreveport, Louisiana, after dropping off a football teammate. A promising wide receiver for Green Oaks High School, Jackson was heading into his senior year with accolades as a first-team All-District player. His life was cut short when another vehicle, described as a black SUV, pulled up alongside his car and its occupants opened fire.
Minnion was struck by multiple gunshots and later succumbed to his injuries at Ochsner LSU Health.
The investigation into the drive-by shooting led Shreveport Police to identify three suspects. Latrevian Anderson, 20, was arrested, and 20-year-old Colby Moore surrendered to authorities at the Caddo Correctional Center. A warrant was also issued for a third suspect, Kendrick Moore, who was wanted on a charge of second-degree murder with a bond set at one million dollars. In December 2020, a Caddo Parish grand jury indicted all three men—Latrevian Anderson, Kendrick Moore, and Colby Moore—on charges of second-degree murder in connection with Jackson's death.
In August 2023, following a trial, Kolby Reshaad Moore was found guilty of the second-degree murder of Minnion Jackson. The jury's unanimous verdict led to a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. During the trial, a witness testified to seeing an SUV firing into Jackson's sedan on I-220. Evidence presented also showed that Moore's phone was in the vicinity of the shooting at the time it occurred. Moore later appealed his conviction, arguing that there was insufficient evidence to identify him as one of the individuals involved in the killing, but the conviction was affirmed.
