to find Garcia slumped in the driver's seat. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries about an hour later.
Friends and family remembered Garcia as a devoted father, a loving partner, and a loyal friend with the "biggest golden heart." He was a well-loved bartender at a local brewery, Care Forgot Beercraft, which closed in his honor the day after his death. His neighbors recalled him as a "shining light" in their community, having recently hosted a large crawfish boil for everyone. Garcia had served his country for two decades in the Marine Corps before retiring and choosing to work as a bartender because of his love for the craft beer community in New Orleans.
The investigation into the shooting quickly revealed that Garcia was an innocent bystander with no connection to the violent events that claimed his life. The gunfire erupted from a narcotics-related dispute between multiple individuals. Within hours of the incident, police arrested 48-year-old Terrence Leavell, a convicted felon who was on parole at the time. Leavell admitted to firing a weapon, claiming he was protecting his nephew from a group in an SUV who had pointed guns at him. He was initially charged with manslaughter, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and illegal use of weapons.
