Teenager shot multiple times
In the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, on the evening of October 10, 2014, 18-year-old Malik Kyran "Doothy" Braddy was found in the middle of the 1600 block of Lizardi Street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Malik, a young African-American man, had graduated from high school just five months prior and had aspirations of joining the Navy.
Known as a typical teenager, he enjoyed sports, parties, and dances. His father described him as a young man who wanted to get a job and do the right thing. While he wasn't perfect, he was a cherished son. His family believes that a long-standing rivalry from his early high school years may have been a factor in his death.
In the wake of his killing, a vigil was held at the location of the shooting, with melted candles and stuffed animals marking the spot. His funeral was held at the Ray Avenue Baptist Church, where friends and family gathered to mourn the young life cut short. A life-size cutout of Malik was present at his family's home, a poignant tribute with which friends and family posed for photos, keeping his memory alive.
As of now, the New Orleans Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects or released a potential motive in the murder of Malik Braddy. His case remains open and unsolved.
