In the early evening of September 26, 2016, the life of 21-year-old Gary Tyshawn Bowser, a Black/African American male from Gwynn Oak, Maryland, was tragically cut short. Just after 6 p.m., the sound of gunfire echoed through the 700 block of Westhills Parkway in Woodlawn. Baltimore County Police officers, who were nearby in the 1000 block of Coleridge Court, heard the shots and immediately responded to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Bowser lying in the street, having
sustained at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. He was quickly transported to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them an hour later. The investigation into the shooting revealed that the assailant had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Despite the efforts of the Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit, the case has grown cold. Detectives have explored the possibility that Bowser was specifically targeted. However, to this day, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The community and Bowser's family are left with the lingering pain of his unsolved killing, still seeking justice for his untimely death. Authorities continue to ask for anyone with information to come forward.
