In the late afternoon of a Tuesday in Washington, D.C., 14-year-old Tyale Coates's life was tragically cut short. On April 14, 2026, at approximately 3:27 p.m., gunfire erupted in the 700 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast, fatally wounding the young male. When police arrived at the scene in the parking lot of a Circle Seven convenience store, they found Tyale and another boy, 12-year-old Mhilo Young, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel responded quickly, but
Tyale's injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Mhilo Young was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
