In Sumter, South Carolina, on the afternoon of April 25, 2026, a dispute between acquaintances turned fatal, ending the life of 36-year-old Bryan Dargan. Deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Collins Street around 4 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Bryan Dargan with a gunshot wound.
Despite immediate aid rendered by the deputies, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly pointed to Yul Iziah David, a 32-year-old man from Manning, as the suspected shooter. Authorities learned that David and Dargan were acquaintances and had been involved in a disagreement that escalated. Investigators believe David drew a weapon and shot Dargan multiple times. Following the shooting, David fled the scene. However, with the assistance of the Sumter Police Department, deputies were able to identify his vehicle and locate him at a home on Spaulding Avenue. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered.
Initially taken into custody as a person of interest, Yul Iziah David was later charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was subsequently booked into the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center where he was denied bond. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office characterized the shooting as a "senseless murder that should have never happened" and assured the public that it was an isolated incident with no further danger to the community. An autopsy for Bryan Dargan was scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
