On a Saturday night in the Penrose neighborhood of north St. Louis, violence erupted, leaving two men dead. Sylvester Caston, a 61-year-old male, was fatally shot on May 19, 2018. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m., also claimed the life of 55-year-old Ira Johnson.
Both Caston and Johnson were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. In addition to the double homicide, a car was stolen during the incident.
The owner of the vehicle, a 44-year-old woman, was present but was not physically injured.
St. Louis police identified the two victims on the following Monday. Authorities also indicated that they had a person of interest in the case, a 36-year-old man. However, his identity was not publicly disclosed, and it remained unclear whether an arrest had been made in connection with the fatal shootings.
