On June 16, 2014, a violent incident occurred in Bellefontaine Neighbors, a suburb within St. Louis County, Missouri, resulting in the untimely death of 19-year-old Antoine Tre-Nell Hall. Police officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1200 block of Laire Drive late that evening, around 10:23 p.m., following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the male victim inside the home, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, prompting the local police department to request the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to lead the homicide investigation.
Detectives worked through the night and into the following days, canvassing the area and following up on leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the young man's death. The investigation revealed that the victim’s parents had returned home to find their door open and their son deceased. For a significant period, the case required extensive work by investigators to identify the person responsible for the shooting.
Two years after the murder, a breakthrough in the case led to the identification and charging of a suspect. Huel Lamont Jenkins Jr., who was also 19 years old at the time of the incident, was taken into custody. Prosecutors charged him with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and armed criminal action in connection with Hall's death. Following the charges, a judge set Jenkins' bond at $250,000, cash only, as the legal proceedings moved forward in the St. Louis County court system.
