On a Friday evening in Sumter, South Carolina, 48-year-old Michael Rochelle Wilson was at the A&P Coastal convenience store on Boulevard Road when his life was tragically cut short. The male victim was fatally shot around 5 p.m. on May 8, 2020. Emergency services transported him to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, the Sumter Police Department began an investigation.
Shortly after the incident, a suspect identified as Troy Tiera an Thomas turned himself in to law enforcement officials. Thomas was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges in connection with Wilson's death.
Following his arrest, Troy Tiera an Thomas was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. The case then proceeded through the legal system, culminating in a trial where the evidence against him was presented. A jury ultimately found Thomas guilty of the murder of Michael Rochelle Wilson. After his conviction, he was sentenced to serve 45 years in prison.
