In the late hours of a Monday evening in Sumter, South Carolina, an argument between housemates escalated to a fatal conclusion. On May 15, 2017, 35-year-old David Jensen Battilana was found in the backyard of his Belk Street home with a gunshot wound. Emergency services transported him to Palmetto Health Tuomey, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Living at the residence with Battilana were two other individuals, one of whom was 25-year-old Channing Aaron Pack.
According to the Sumter Police Department, an altercation between the three residents preceded the shooting. When officers arrived at the scene around 11:30 p.m., they found Pack and another witness present.
Following an investigation into the incident, Channing Aaron Pack was taken into custody and charged with the murder of his roommate, David Battilana. He was subsequently booked at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center. The initial police reports indicated that the shooting was the direct result of the argument that had transpired earlier that evening.
