Born on July 15, 1981, in Sumter, he was the son of Judy Barfield Battilana and the late Stephen Charles Battilana, Sr. David, affectionately known as "Bama," was a beloved father to six children: Autumn, Phoenix, Gabrielle, Topanga, Charlie, and Cora Lee.
