Sergeant Charles B. Kubala Sr., a dedicated officer with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina, tragically lost his life on February 26, 1996. At the age of 32, Sergeant Kubala was responding to a call about a suspicious person when he encountered the suspect. During this confrontation, the suspect shot Sergeant Kubala once in the ear and once in the shoulder with a .22 caliber handgun, resulting in his immediate death.
