On a September evening in the Cherryvale community of Sumter, South Carolina, 22-year-old Michael Sigler, Jr. was walking down a road, accompanied by his father and 19-year-old Christopher Antonio Thompson. Their walk was violently interrupted when a vehicle pulled up alongside them and multiple gunshots were fired from within. Both Sigler and Thompson were struck by the gunfire.
