In the early morning hours of May 19, 2022, the life of 23-year-old Ezra Porter was tragically cut short in Indianapolis, Indiana. Porter, a Black male known affectionately as 'E.J.,' was discovered with a gunshot wound on a sidewalk near a parked car on Illinois Street, just north of West 36th Street, in the vicinity of Crown Hill Cemetery. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call around 2:30 a.m.
and found Porter next to his own vehicle, which was still running with music playing.
Emergency services transported Porter to a nearby hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Remembered as a loving son, brother, and father, his death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends. Those who knew him described him as having a big heart and a willingness to help others, with a passion for cars, bikes, and shoes.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the case as a homicide. Despite the ongoing investigation led by Detective Larry Craciunoiu, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Law enforcement has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and has provided avenues for anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. The community continues to mourn his loss as his family awaits answers and hopes for justice for the person or persons responsible for his death.
