On a summer night in Indianapolis, the life of Timothy Sheron Bean was tragically cut short. The 24-year-old Black male was shot and killed on July 29, 2020, in what became a grim statistic in a city grappling with violence. His death was the result of a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of the Amber Woods Apartments on the far east side of the city.
Timothy, who used a wheelchair, was in the parking lot when the fatal shots were fired.
The incident that claimed Timothy’s life was part of a wider spasm of violence that shook Indianapolis over a period of just over four hours that night. In separate incidents across the city, two other individuals also lost their lives to gun violence. The Amber Woods Apartments, where Timothy was killed, had been the scene of multiple violent incidents, raising concerns among residents and community leaders about the safety of the area.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation into Timothy Bean's death. Despite their efforts, his murder is one of several homicides that occurred at the apartment complex that remain unsolved.
