On August 2, 2016, a violent incident unfolded on the east side of Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of 24-year-old Deontae Nathaniel Davis, a Black male originally from Benton Harbor, Michigan. Affectionately known to his friends and family as "Boo," Davis had relocated to Indianapolis where he was building a life centered around his passion for music and his role as a father. He was remembered as a spirit who loved to make others smile and enjoyed playing basketball in his free time. His life was cut short when he became the victim of a fatal shooting that prompted an immediate response from local law enforcement.
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Davis suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead, leaving a void in the lives of his loved ones, including his fiancée, Jazmine Ross-Gammon, and his three children.
