On August 18, 2024, 19-year-old Demari Tyriq Spann was fatally shot at the Sleep Inn hotel on Broad Street in Sumter, South Carolina. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m., when Sumter Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Spann and 20-year-old Saquan Logan, both of Sumter, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds outside the hotel.
