In the early hours of a Sunday morning in October 2020, the body of Russell Eugene Gleghorn was discovered behind a building on Old Pocalla Road in Sumter, South Carolina. The 38-year-old man from Hilton Head Island had been fatally shot. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the precise cause of death. Gleghorn, a male, was in the Sumter area to attend a biker party.
According to friends, Gleghorn had been on a Harley run with a group of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts that weekend.
His family expressed their profound shock and distress, stating they had very little information about the circumstances leading to his death. Gleghorn's sister publicly questioned whether he had been robbed or if he was attacked while trying to defend someone.
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the apparent homicide and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
