On a tragic November evening in Sumter, South Carolina, the lives of the Davis family were irrevocably shattered. Randy Davis, a 36-year-old man, was killed in a violent shooting that also claimed the lives of his 61-year-old father, Raymond Davis, and his 32-year-old brother, Marcus Davis. The attack took place at their home on Marilyn Avenue on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
The horror began when a lone gunman, later identified as 27-year-old Eugene Martin, opened fire on Marcus Davis
and his pregnant girlfriend as they sat in a car outside the residence. Marcus was fatally wounded in the vehicle. The gunman then pursued Randy Davis into the house, shooting him multiple times in a back bedroom where he succumbed to his injuries. The patriarch of the family, Raymond Davis, was found deceased in the living room, also a victim of the gunfire.
In the aftermath of the brutal attack, a 21-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant with Marcus Davis's child, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. She underwent an emergency C-section, and while she survived, her infant son, Myles Marcus Davis, was born in critical condition. Tragically, the baby died months later in January 2021. Two other individuals present in the home at the time of the shooting were physically unharmed.
The suspect, Eugene Martin, who was known to the Davis brothers as a coworker, fled the scene but was apprehended the following morning. He was initially charged with three counts of murder, four counts of attempted murder, burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and malicious injury to property. Following the death of the infant, a fourth murder charge was added. Martin had a prior criminal record, including a conviction for involuntary manslaughter in 2016 for which he had served three years in prison. He was denied bond and taken into custody at the Sumter County jail.
