In the early morning hours of August 8, 2021, a life was tragically cut short in Sumter, South Carolina. Nigel Scott Alexander Batts, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot outside a bar on Peach Orchard Road. Following the incident, he was rushed to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect: 23-year-old Donta Dowe.
Authorities announced that they were seeking Dowe on charges of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a felon. A description of Dowe was released to the public, noting him as being 6 feet tall, weighing 300 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.
Following a search, Donta Dowe was arrested and formally charged in connection with the death of Nigel Batts.
