In the early morning hours of September 18, 2019, a tragic shooting in the Cherryvale community of Sumter, South Carolina, claimed the life of 19-year-old Christopher Antonio Thompson. Thompson, along with 22-year-old Michael Sigler, Jr., was walking down the road when a vehicle approached them, and shots were fired from within. Thompson was transported to Prisma Health Toumey, where he succumbed to a gunshot wound.
Sigler was also taken to a local hospital where he too passed away from his injuries.
The Sumter County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the double homicide, which they stated did not appear to be a random act of violence and was believed to be gang-related. The investigation led to the identification of a stolen vehicle that was connected to the murders. This breakthrough ultimately led to the arrests of three suspects in November 2019.
Sierra Renee Wilson, Armonie Freeman, and Trayvuane Scott were taken into custody and faced multiple charges in connection with the deaths of Thompson and Sigler. Wilson was charged with two counts of murder, grand larceny of the vehicle, and financial transaction card theft. Freeman's charges included two counts of murder, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and criminal conspiracy, among other drug-related offenses. Scott faced a similar slate of charges, including two counts of murder, possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for a blue light, and multiple weapons and drug charges. The three were booked at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.
