James Paul Freund, aged 29, and Pamela Mae Buckley, aged 24, were found murdered on August 9, 1976, in Sumter County, South Carolina. Their bodies were discovered by a truck driver on a secluded dirt road near Interstate 95. Both victims had been shot multiple times; Freund was shot three times in the upper chest, while Buckley was shot in the upper chest and through the neck. The weapon used was believed to be a .357 caliber revolver.
