On a tragic New Year's Eve in Sumter, South Carolina, 46-year-old Channing Goodman, a Black man, lost his life in a selfless act of peacemaking. The incident, which occurred on December 31, 2022, unfolded at a residence on Hampton Avenue where Goodman was attempting to de-escalate a physical altercation between two women. His intervention, however, had fatal consequences.
