Antwane Dargan, 23, a Black/African American man, was killed on December 30, 2015, in Sumter, South Carolina, after gunfire erupted at the Poplar Square apartments on Miller Road. He was found outside near one of the buildings, and an autopsy later determined he had been struck by multiple gunshot wounds.
As detectives worked the scene and chased down leads, Sumter Police announced they had identified a teenage suspect, Jordan Jackson, and charged him with murder in connection with the
shooting. Jackson was taken into custody and held through the state’s juvenile justice system while awaiting a bond hearing, with authorities noting that South Carolina law allows a murder charge at that age to move forward in adult court.
Investigators also arrested Deonte Perry, accusing him of concealing what he knew about the fatal shooting and charging him with misprision of a felony.
