In the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, a young Hispanic woman's life was tragically cut short in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide. Yasmene Herrera, a 22-year-old female, was found deceased on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in an apartment in the city's Northland neighborhood. Just weeks before her death, she had celebrated the birth of her son.
Police were dispatched to an apartment in the 2600 block of NE 42nd Street shortly before 4:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers heard a gunshot from an upstairs apartment. Inside, they discovered Yasmene Herrera and a man, identified as 21-year-old Victor Campos, both suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services responded to the scene and pronounced both individuals deceased.
Authorities have stated that they are not actively searching for any suspects in connection with the deaths. The case is being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide, leaving friends and family to mourn the sudden and devastating loss of a new mother.
Yasmene was remembered as a beautiful, God-fearing soul whose presence filled every room with love. She was known for her loud, joyful laugh and the warmth she shared with others. A graduate of The Jacobs Center in 2023, she had a deep affection for animals and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian.
