Catherine Barry, a 34-year-old woman, was found deceased on March 14, 1986, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her body was discovered in an abandoned public works building, covered with leaves, with a nylon stocking around her neck. Barry was not a known sex worker but had been struggling with mental illness following the birth of her third child.
